PSHE teaches children the skills they need to make appropriate decisions about their lives now and in the future. It also encourages children to develop confidence and a sense of responsibility. Pupils are encouraged to develop good relationships with peers and staff, as well as a healthy understanding of the many differences between people.

PSHE is taught as a stand-alone subject and also through other curriculum subjects, assemblies and class discussions. It is an integral part of every school day.

Emphasis is placed on active learning through discussion, investigation and problem-solving activities. Children are rewarded for positive behaviour by members of staff in a range of ways, including earning House points, extra play, stickers and certificates.

Children experience democracy through our School Council which is made up of elected representatives from Year 2 upwards.

Relationships and Sex Education is taught as part of our curriculum, in line with national guidance. Our curriculum is delivered through lessons by the Family Planning Association, samples of which can be found here. Curriculum maps and learning outcomes can be found in the appendix of our RSE policy, which is available in the ‘Policies and Key Information’ section of the website. Lesson plans and resources can be made available in full upon request to the school office.

The best way to see the school in action is to book onto an open morning. These events last approximately an hour – you will have an opportunity to meet the Head and have a tour of the school led by the Year Six pupils. We look forward to welcoming you to Maple Walk soon.
