New Head Teacher Promotions
We are delighted to announce that, in January 2022, Claire Murdoch, Head Teacher at Faraday, Maple Walk’s sister school, will be moving to Maple Walk as Head Teacher and we are equally delighted that Lucas Motion, currently Deputy Head at Maple Walk School, will join Faraday School as Head Teacher.
Mrs Murdoch will take over the reins from Sarah Gillam, who having led and developed the school successfully for the past eight and a half years and achieved an Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) rating ‘Excellent in all areas” in March 2020, is moving to Hawkesdown House School. She will leave us in January with our heartfelt thanks and very best wishes.
With Mr Motion’s move to Faraday in January 2022, we will be looking to recruit a new Deputy Head from within the schools before the end of the summer term.
Mrs Murdoch has been a dynamic and inspirational leader at Faraday, a school that shares Maple Walk’s ethos, vision and values by providing an outstanding primary education for every child in a caring and nurturing environment.
She joins Maple Walk with a breadth of experience, through her Headship at Faraday, Deputy Headship at St Christopher’s, Hampstead and role as a serving ISI inspector. Mrs Murdoch has gained huge popularity across the school community with her enthusiastic, creative, hands on approach. Her focus on collaboration extends beyond the school gates to harness local and national opportunities in the arts and community initiatives that deepen and strengthen pupils’ learning across year groups.
The success of Faraday from Reception though to Year 6 is reflected in the excellent secondary school transfers and a significant number of scholarships. It is also testament to her leadership skills, positivity and flexible approach to new enterprises that engage and inspire children’s curiosity and love of learning across a creative curriculum and varied extra-curricular subjects.
Speaking of her appointment as Head Teacher at Maple Walk, Mrs Murdoch said “I am fortunate to be stepping into Sarah’s shoes; I have enjoyed working with her tremendously and watching her great work across the school. I am excited to be joining such a happy and thriving school and look forward to nurturing each individual’s strengths, collaborating with the whole school community and beyond to give the children a great education and enable them to reach their full potential whilst having fun.”
Mrs Gillam, Head Teacher at Maple Walk commented ‘Knowing Claire and all her attributes she will be a great asset to the school, inspiring pupils across the school’s creative curriculum with her infectious positivity, openness and particular interest in pupils’ personal development, to continue Maple Walk’s standing as an excellent school. She is a person of our time who thinks deeply and progressively about how we should be preparing our children to live and thrive in a changing world”
Mrs Gillam will, of course, remain as Maple Walk’s Head Teacher, leading an outstanding SLT and staff until the end of the autumn term. In the meantime, there will be plenty of time and opportunities for parents and staff to meet and get to know Mrs Murdoch in the autumn term.
