Learning Support

We use a range of different teaching and learning approaches which are carefully chosen to suit pupils’ needs. This philosophy underpins our curriculum. 

Our small class sizes and well-qualified staff enable us to provide plenty of individualised support to those children who need more help and stretch those who benefit from more of an academic challenge. Our approach to differentiated learning means that all children are helped to achieve their potential. 

We are an academically rigorous school and we are ambitious for all our children. We have regular, informal assessments in English and Maths to help the teachers better tailor their lessons to the class. Small group interventions and class-based support is usually delivered by our teachers or teaching assistants. If more specialist support is needed, this will be discussed with parents and the child may be referred to a SEND specialist teacher for 1:1 tutoring.

The school is committed to the equal treatment of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). While we are not a specialist Special Educational Needs and Disabilities school, we will always consider our duty under the Equality Act 2010 and ask parents to provide all available information regarding their child’s needs so that we can fully determine what adjustments we are able to make to accommodate their child and assist with their learning.

When joining us at Reception, children are not assessed. If joining us for an occasional space higher up the school, however, there will be informal assessments during the ‘taster day’ and any specific SEND will be considered at this point.
