We believe that an excellent Early Years’ education is vital for a child’s personal, social and emotional development. We prioritise this precious experience at Maple Walk; our Reception class is a nurturing and warm environment where young pupils have plenty of opportunity to investigate the world around them, be creative, make first friends and have plenty of fun.

When they start at school, Reception pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.

There are seven areas of learning in the EYFS:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Physical development
  • Communication and language
  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive Arts and Design

We give our young pupils space, time and support to explore all the areas of the EYFS curriculum. We embed the important building blocks of phonics and maths using the best the classroom and outdoor world has to offer, enabling the children to learn through creative and imaginative play.

We invite children to Stay and Play sessions in the spring and summer terms before they join us, so they are settled and ready to begin their school journey at the start of term.

The best way to see the school in action is to book onto an open morning. These events last approximately an hour – you will have an opportunity to meet the Head and have a tour of the school led by the Year Six pupils. We look forward to welcoming you to Maple Walk soon.
